Keeping Zero
This is a checklist to solve easy-to-fix issues, please read each part carefully.
Please use the screws with the thick neck provided by Cyelee Optics.
Let us know if you need another spec.
ONLY USE SCREWS INCLUDED WITH THE OPTIC - DO NOT USE ANY OTHER SCREWS
- Experience: We do not know your level of experience. If you are a beginner or this is your first optic, please let us know.
-
Zero distance: Your zeroing distance is critical for accuracy.
- Zero your optic at a minimum distance of 25 yards.
- Zeroing at closer distances (e.g., 5, 10, or 15 yards) will cause significant point-of-impact shifts at longer ranges.
-
Iron sights: Do not use your iron sights to zero your red dot.
- Never "slave" the red dot to the iron sights by aligning them.
- Do not use the iron sight position to judge if the red dot has lost zero. This method is inaccurate.
-
Mount check: Ensure the optic is seated perfectly on the slide.
- Shine a flashlight from the opposite side of the optic mount.
- If any light passes underneath, the optic is not properly seated.
- Physically check for any looseness or wobble. If found, correct the mounting.
-
Laser bore-sight test: This test checks if the optic is shifting on the slide under force.
- Zero the reticle to a laser bore sight at 25 yards.
- Without cycling the slide, firmly tap the optic with a rubber mallet or screwdriver handle.
- Observe if the reticle moves in relation to the laser. If it shifts, the optic is moving on the slide, and the mounting must be corrected.
If you do not have a laser bore sight, we recommend getting one. Be aware that the laser will shift position if removed and replaced.
- Fasteners: Install the optic with one drop of 242 Loctite on each screw and torque to at least 18 lb-in. Allow at least one hour for curing.
- Ammunition changes: Switching loads can cause minor shifts in zero. From a bench rest, re-check zero to eliminate shooter movement; even small trigger input can shift point of impact.
